Why am I having Repeated IUI failures ?

Fertility can be a challenging and emotional journey, but it's important to remember that everyone's journey is unique, and there can be various factors contributing to the lack of success.

Here are a few questions that need to be answered

1.    Am I getting my IUI done at the correct ovulation time ?

Accurate timing of IUI is crucial to increase the chances of success. Monitoring your ovulation using methods such as ultrasound monitoring or ovulation predictor kits can help ensure that the insemination is performed at the optimal time.

2.    What is the sperm quality ?
An optimal sperm count with good motility and morphology is essential for fertilization. While we generally wash the sperm sample before insemination in IUI, it does not rule out the morphologically abnormal sperms away nor does it allow for DNA assessment. The wash itself does not improve the sperm motility or morphology.

3.     Are my fallopian tubes blocked ?
If there are problems with the fallopian tubes, such as blockages or damage, it can hinder the fertilization process. A hysterosalpingogram (HSG) or other diagnostic tests can help assess the condition of your fallopian tubes.

4.    What is my ovarian reserve and ovum quality ?
The ovarian reserve refers to the quantity and quality of your eggs. If you have a diminished ovarian reserve or a lower egg quality, it may reduce the chances of successful fertilization.

5.    Do I have any uterine problems ?
Problems with the uterus, such as fibroids, polyps, or structural abnormalities, can interfere with implantation. A thorough evaluation of the uterus through imaging techniques like hysteroscopy or ultrasound can help identify such issues.

There may be other underlying factors contributing to the repeated failures, such as hormonal imbalances, immune system issues, or genetic abnormalities. Further testing and evaluation can help identify and address these factors.

It's important to have open and honest communication with your healthcare provider to discuss your concerns and explore alternative options if necessary. In some cases, your provider may recommend considering alternative fertility treatments, such as in vitro fertilization (IVF), which can offer higher success rates depending on your specific situation.

Remember to take care of yourself both physically and emotionally throughout this process. It can be challenging, but support from loved ones, counselling, or joining support groups with individuals going through similar experiences can be beneficial.
